It is a strange thing. I feel like it is something that never really gets easier. I mean, I come to terms with it and have an understanding of it, but it isn't something I'll ever get over. I think anyone that has ever lost a loved one knows this exact feeling. I feel like ever since my mom passed away I have felt an emptyness or void in my life that I am not quite sure how to repair. I'm not quite sure if that kind of thing ever really gets repaired. We were really close and I still often find myself wanting to tell her things or wanting her advice on things and then feeling totally at a loss because I don't have her to go to. In honor of her memory I just want to share a funny story about her. Ever since she passed away I seem to only vividly remember things towards the end of her life. People would always tell me with time I'll remember the earlier things but that still hasn't happened for me yet and I'm not sure if it ever well. When she was sick and doing chemotherapy and lot of her hair was starting to fall out she decided that she wanted to have a mohawk at least one time in her life. My brother and I loved this and thought it was hilarious. She always had a way of kind of making light of things or having a good sense of humor. So with some clippers we shaved her hair into a crazy mohawk and put it up with a bunch of hairspray and gel and dressed her up in an old Germs t-shirt that we had lying around with the sleeves cut off and a spiked bracelet. It was a really funny sight, and something I always remember about her and about how she always kept up a good spirit no matter how bad things were getting.

I miss you mom, and happy birthday.

An older article I wrote about my mom and dad and love: http://www.imposemagazine.com/features/freddy-ruppert-of-former-ghosts

Donate to the Cancer Wellness Community: http://www.thewellnesscommunity.org/

The Saints Win The Super Bowl

When I was little, my brother and I would always watch football with my dad and mom. My mom was born in Church Point, Louisiana, when she grew up she moved to New Orleans, and then finally to Los Angeles. The Saints were her team and who she rooted for even though they were always, always, horrible. The worst. One Halloween when I wasn't sure what I wanted to be and needed a costume last minute my mom dressed me up as a Saints fan, aka the Aints. This costume included wearing a paper bag over your head that said the Aints on it. You could still be a Saints fan but you better wear a paper bag over your head because it was embarrassing.

My dad called me early in the season and told me that the Saints were looking really good. And I told him that's crazy. Yet week after week he would call me and say the Saints won again. Then my brother started calling me. Then I started to pay attention. Then I started to get excited.

I watched the Super Bowl today with my dad and brother and a family friend of ours who was my mom's best friend whom she had met in New Orleans. It was amazing. None of us could believe what we were seeing. My Aunt Bridgette called from Louisiana just screaming into the phone "We won! We won! We won!" Most of us were teary eyed as we also knew the special person that was missing from watching the game with us.

Hey Mom, your team won. I wish you could have seen it. I miss you.
<3
